Windows VPS Usage Ideas

I bought a Windows VPS a while back with the idea of running plesk. After their outrageous price increase I scrapped my license and now have an empty VPS. I though of using Plex but it's an SSD vps so I wouldn't get too far.

What are some uses you guys use it for?

How important is location?

I’ve got a fee friends starting companies right now, and they know that I have a growing interest in servers, these are mainly small companies by the way. Either way, they have asked me if I can host their websites, some of them, they’re close and we help each otherw back and forth, I won’t take any money.

Some of them insisted on paying and are the friends of other friends and so on. Anyway, I am done figuring out the billing, I am done figuring out how my little static information page will be hosted. I know where I am getting the domain ans I know what mailing solution that I’ll use.

However, and here comes the hard part. Money isn’t an issue, these companies are flexible that if I say it’s gonna run me a dollar a month or 25 dollars a month dosen’t really matter for them. So I was thinking about delivering the best possible performance that I possibly can. And so I figured out there’s two good ways to go about this:

  1. Get a deicated server with So You Start. Good performance. More control. Most realiable DDoS protection on this list. Marginally more expensove. Not Swedish IP-addresses for SEO, since all my clients are Swedish.

  2. Get a OpenVZ vps with OpenVZ.io. Okay performance. Enough control. Halfbad DDoS protection. Cheaper. Swedish IP addresses. Shared envirement.

I also need to find a good solution to host a dns cluster for my custom nameservers. Should I focus on getting them into two different Swedish datacenters or getting two highly DDoS protected ones?

Sweden and DDoS protection normally dosen’t go together at all. What’s your opinions on this matter?

March Madness - Lots of offers from lots of hosts! || GOOD DEALS INSIDE!

Hi Folks.

I asked all the providers as well as a few that don't usually post here if they have anything special they want to promote, not necessarily low end prices but anything goes, no limits and here is a big list of that was put forward!

I am going to do this 4 times a year, the post will stay open and unsunk for a week, think of it as a mini Back Friday/Cyber Monday type event where all services at all prices are allowed.

All feedback is very welcome, trolling (whinging) will be deleted and ignored (moderated), try to keep it positive, I believe doing this 4 times a year will probably ultimately be preferable or more balanced especially for the hardcore lowenders rather than the $84 dedi limit which so far has made little difference.

Providers that missed out feel free to post other offers in here at any time this week, it will not count towards your regular count and literally anything goes.

Big thanks to Gabe from IOflood who sent in a fantastic 18TB storage server offer, they dont have representation on LET right now but this is an exclusive deal for LET/B members so show them some love.

Big thanks to @teamacc for doing the layout!

Big thanks to all hosts that put something in.

The next one will be bigger no doubt, I plan to have this list on LEB fairly soon, within the next few days.

BZYBHosting - Goof-up and then threatening

We had VPS + R1Soft Backup with them. Unfortunately our 2 Gb of data was deleted by us and we requested them in 2/3 days to restore the data. They goofed-up in restoration and now threatened us to terminate our services.

In the process, we have lost our 2 Gb of data. BUT they are so arrogant and unapologetic that they cancelled our access to client area.

How can one seek necessary remedy now?

regards, Riu

Does backhaul provider matter in VOIP?

It's all about latency so one would assume yes. But than is that only for the sip provider or also for the PBX solution? In other words would it be worth paying more for a provider utilizing level 3 for example even its only for the PBX box?

Obviously geographical requirements already taken into consideration.

One time payment VPS (lifetime) in Norway: A Joke? / or $5/month

Hey!

Whilst I was searching for virtual servers in Norway, I stumbuled across an interesting company. It owned by Terrahost (or a partner as they claim). Terrahost should be a reputable company.

There are LET plans, $5 per month for a VPS in Norway on VMWare.

Do they even have VMWare licensing, such as with being a VSPP?

TheForeverCloud

You should check it out: https://theforevercloud.com/#hosting $60 one time payment gives you a lifetime server (?)

Enterprise File hosting/storage that Autoprovisions with WHMCS

0

One of my friends just asked for this so I was just curious to know if there is an open source/free/paid app that can be used to manage Cloud Storage of files and documents.

Owncloud, Nextcloud, Pydio, SeaFile all seem to be fine, but I'm not sure if they can be auto provisioned through WHMCS in some way ? My knowledge of "provider systems" is zero and I seek guidance on this.

There will be companies that will be paying up to store their files, and once they pay, they should be sent their provisioned credentials of the system where they can create their storage subsystem. Though not now, it will be great if we can scale it up to Reseller features in future.

Thanks.

Speech to Text - OffLLine?

Is there any reliable software/ service which can help convert recorded lectures and transcribe it?

I would prefer even a paid software, but, working on windows would be ideal and off line transcribing.

Some of the lectures contain confidential data, so, if its an online service, I would like to see it to be HIPAA compliant.

Any suggestions welcome.
